The Chesapeake Conservancy is working with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and others to conserve this largely unspoiled landscape, which is a place of both natural and cultural importance, and is a key feature along the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail, the nation’s first national watertrail.
Fones Cliffs is a 3.7-mile (5.97 km) historic waterfront trail along the Rappahannock River featuring dramatic cliff views and a 3-foot elevation change. The trail is part of the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail and provides critical habitat for one of the largest concentrations of bald eagles on the East Coast.
